A slow website is almost always fixable, and fixing it usually costs far less than a rebuild. Most slow pages come from a few common causes, like heavy images or a system doing too much work for each visitor. A quick check finds the cause, and small fixes often bring the speed back.
Why is my website or app slow?
Usually it’s a handful of simple things. Big, uncompressed images are the most common cause. Sometimes the system that runs your site is doing too much work for every visitor. Old code can also pile up over the years and slow everything down.
Is it losing me customers?
Almost certainly, yes. People leave a page that takes more than a few seconds to load. A slow site also shows up lower in search, so fewer people find you at all. If sales or sign-ups have dipped, speed is worth checking before you blame anything else.
Can it be fixed without a rebuild?
Most of the time, yes. A slow site rarely means the whole thing is broken. We usually fix speed by trimming what’s heavy and cleaning up the parts doing too much work. A full rebuild is a last resort, not a first step. If you’re weighing one up, see is my old software worth fixing.
How do I find out what is slow?
Start with a check. We measure how long your pages take to load and where the delay comes from. It’s a small, low-cost job, usually a day or two. You get a plain list of what’s slow and what it would take to fix each part.
What does it cost to fix?
Far less than a rebuild, in most cases. Small speed fixes often cost a few hundred to a few thousand euros. The check comes first, so you know the price before any work starts. Keeping a site fast is part of normal upkeep, which we cover in what it costs to maintain an app.
| Common cause | Usual fix |
|---|---|
| Heavy images | Shrink and compress them |
| System doing too much | Reuse work and tidy the code |
| Too many things loading | Load only what’s needed |
| Old code piling up | Tidy the slow parts |
