The honest answer
There are three ways to get software made, and most advice online turns it into freelancer versus agency. That skips the option that fits most projects.
- A freelancer is cheap and quick, but usually does one part, and may be gone when something breaks.
- An agency gives you a whole team, but you pay for a manager who passes your emails to someone you rarely meet. Often the people who sell the work are not the ones who do it.
- A studio builds the thing and keeps it running. Same people, start to finish.
